Western Federal Credit Union

They have been very nice to me.

Oakland Municipal Credit Union just got eaten by this big boy. I loved Oakland Municipal Credit Union, they were so chill, so non-corporate, so real...that, unfortunately I guess they just didn't make it happen.

I have not yet visited the recent new rendition, Western Federal Credit Union. I am wondering whether my former bank tellers are now unemployed, or perhaps got rehabilitated into something a bit more "professional" or what, but I do hope I see them.

The thing is, there's only two branches. With OMCU I used to be able to make my deposits at Bank of The West for no charge, but I quickly found out that WFCU has completely different ATMs, none of which seem to accept deposits. And guess what- the only close by one to me is at Highland Hospital Emergency Room!!! Or, a 7-11. Real classy ATM experiences.

Went in to this branch and was pleasantly surprised how friendly everyone one. I was in an out within five minutes and got everything taken care of. I rarely go into any branch, but have had Western for the past 15 years and they have been nothing but amazing, no fees, everything is free, and last year they made too much money so they deposited what extra they made into the members accounts; what normal bank does that? None!

I LOVE my credit union! Western is as good as it can get with banking! The online system is so easy and I use it all the time. This branch has the nicest employees and they are so helpful! They actually remember my account number by heart, so I don't even have to tell them when I visit....now that is customer service! They don't put crazy holds on my checks when I deposit them and they don't charge astronomical fees either! I have citibank, too....and this place puts them to shame!

I've been with this CU for 6 years and I still have never set foot into a branch because of the co-op system. I also have an account at BofA and Wamu and this credit union still beats them any day. There are equal amounts of ATMs available for me to use and they don't charge up the rear in bank fees.

We have checking accounts, our car loan and mortgage with Western, and are very happy with the service they provide. We have also refinanced our home several times with them - and it has been relatively painless. We are fans - and recommend them. They also have a great network of partner credit unions you can use to access your account - which is nice when you don't want to drive to a Western office.
