Duckstein Brewery

When we came in we were told that we could only sit down to eat for half an hour, even though there was heaps of tables and seats available. Luckily we spotted a friend and sat with them instead.
Only one cider on tap (spider cider) which isn't my favourite. The mushroom, spinach and feta filo was so so tasty. Perfect for the winter weather today. I have been here in the summer and sitting outside by the lake was really relaxing. With the live band playing in the background it really set the chilled out scene.

I had never been here before. We came during the week because my friend had to fix the ATM. While he was working the manager came out and introduced herself to me which she didn't need to but it was so nice. All the staff were super friendly and the waiters seemed to stop for a chat at every single table.

We sat outside which overlooked the lake. It is so quiet and beautiful there. It was an amazing place to eat.

It is a German menu. There is not too many mains to choose from but heaps of sides and entrées.
We ordered the bread & dips to start with which was $18. I could of just had this as my main. It was huge and each dip was good.
I ordered the steak sandwich which was $28. I could barely eat any of it because I was so full from the starter but what I did eat of it was yum. It came with onion rings and chips and was huge.
My friend ordered the scotch fillet for $42 which he scoffed down in minutes so it must have been good.

We also ordered the beer tasting plate. The regular is $12 and large is $15. It was good to taste each beer that they had on tap.

It was such a nice place to eat and I would definitely go back with a group of friends. It's so chilled and relaxed and it just looks stunning as well.

Superb food at fair prices. The pork and sausage pan is awesome.

Playground for kids. Lovely location and architecture.

If you are a CUB, you'll like it.

For me it seemed to have so much potential but fell short.

It is a modern building with good (if manufactured) views and the tacky statues can be forgiven.

However... Queuing for 10 minutes to order food and them finding must queue again for drinks was not a happy discovery.

The food was both average and expensive. The beer was not bad.

I would say it is handy as a toilet stop except that Laurence Winery is across the road and it's toilets are worth a visit.

Don't go.

A lovely place to come and have a meal and a beer, particularly if you get a chance to sit outside on the balcony, but be prepared for a long wait on service. I should probably be a bit more forgiving on the waiting periods as it was a long weekend, however my partner waited until long after we had consumed our beverages (there were not enough clean glasses for his sampling tray) before quietly, and unsurprisingly good humouredly ordering a different type of beer. The wait staff, when they did manage to get to you, were delightful and apologetic for the wait.

If you're a sucker for old James Bond films like me, you'll love the job the architects have done with the Duckstein Brewery building. It looks like the sort of sexy 1960s hideaway Sean Connery would have wooed a million bee-hived babes in. Lots of use of stone and the most gigantic breath taking fire greets you as you walk through the doors. The Duckstein Brewery was one of the pioneers of craft brewing in Western Australia's popular Swan Valley and opened up the second location a couple of years ago. Located in the picturesque Saracen Estates on Caves Rd the second Dusckstein Brewery was popular straight away. Sample one of the many German style beers brewed on-site in the 1000 litre brewery. There's a great outdoors area with a cute little lake where you'll be serenaded on a Sunday as they have live music performances. In 2010 the Brewery was awarded the 'Best Boutique Brewery' in WA at the AHA Awards.

Meals were staggered between our table and other tables, the duck was crispy and well seasoned but was over cooked. On the other hand the steak sandwich was above average.

Disappointing service ruined Duckstein for my friends and I. Although it was beautiful, there were several issues on my visit. EFTPO's was not working and although they had an ATM it was out of order. A friend ordered a beer but was either ignored or unheard by the server. They brought the drinks to our table rather than serving us at the bar so we didn't realize immediately. They were also out of specific products which some of our group had really anticipated on our visit to Duckstein.
